I'm back.

I've been away from this for a while -- busy, you know how it is.
Had some health stuff going on too.  I'm back enough to at least keep the calendar updated.  I might even run a race this fall, we've got plenty of them (see link to the calendar on the right).  After all, Fall is the best time for running...

The Boston Marathon is Monday

Clemson faculty Wally and Heather Dunn will run the Boston Marathon again this year.  Last year, injury forced Wally to walk the last portion.  When Heather caught up to him, she ...
"...slowed down to walk beside him for a few minutes before continuing on with the race towards the finish line. And then chaos ensued. Had Heather not slowed her pace to walk beside her husband, she would have been at the finish line when the bombs exploded."
Story, and source of the picture I swiped, [here].

Punxsutawney who?

Weathermen say a couple of cold nights this week, but then I think that will be about it.  The peepers and the daffodils say its time for Spring.  Spring road racing season is upon us, regardless of the weather -- and the calendar is packed.  There is at least one foot race in our area every Saturday from March through May.

High School track and field fires up in a couple weeks:  I think the first meet is March 10th at Seneca. [link]

Clemson is hosting the indoor track and field ACC championships this weekend.  [link]  The Tigers have drawn some promising recruits this year, including Daniel High School's Elizabeth Dawson for the cross country team.  [link]

The club's final donation was to the Oconee Medical Center Foundation.  Here's the note that went with the check:
Please accept this donation for your juvenile diabetes program.

Oconee Road Runners Club has disbanded. On behalf of all the former members I'd like to thank the Oconee Medical Center Foundation for helping young people in our community with diabetes. The club actually started as a group of neighbors jogging with a girl who had been diagnosed with diabetes and prescribed a regimen of exercise by her doctor. That was over thirty years ago, and although we have supported other causes over the years, juvenile diabetes has been a constant concern, dearest to the club's heart.

There are a lot of people running in Oconee, and lots of races and events going on -- I guess people just aren't interested in a club (or don't have time for it). I intend to keep the event calendar going on our website, and perhaps the blog too, as well as the facebook page. So, if someone you are helping with diabetes (or anyone else) is interested in doing a 5k, or maybe a half-marathon, you can send them there to find events and maybe other runners.
